Reading the form

A sportsbook is a front-end problem wearing a finance problem's clothes. Prices move, sometimes while a finger is on its way to the screen, and the interface has to be honest about that without punishing the punter for the delay. The whole craft lives in a half-second.

Get the feedback wrong and you get one of two failures. Either the UI pretends the price is stiller than it is, and people bet on numbers that no longer exist, or it flinches at every tick and feels broken. The good version sits in between: calm, but never lying.

Latency is a design material

You cannot remove the delay, so you design with it. Optimistic states, clear confirmation, a price that visibly re-quotes rather than silently swapping - these are not decoration, they are how trust survives contact with the network.

Betting just makes the stakes obvious. Any interface that spends real money on someone's behalf owes the same honesty: show the state you actually have, not the one you wish you had.
